20 times can yield over $1 million

Almost 10 years ago I wrote a book on How to Turn $1.00 into Thousands. The premise behind my book and a course that I wrote and taught was to challenge the participants to double $1 every week for 20 weeks.

The rules were simple. Start with one dollar, and everything that is legal is fair game. The only restrictions were that you could not use your profession as an income source nor use any other funds to purchase and resell something other than your dollar. That also had a restriction, you could not use more that 50% of the cash you have on hand for your efforts. A garage sale is legal as is collecting aluminum cans. Although I did not suggest it in my book, selling a white paper on the internet, through your blog is also a possibility. You can also get paid for work other than your own job or business. If you have friends that want to donate money to you, that also counts.

The purpose was to get you to think outside the box. The time limit of 20 weeks was established in order to have a time frame in which the “Money Game” was played.

Do the math: $1 doubled every week for 20 weeks yields $1,048,576.00. In the past 10 years I have not had anyone reach the million dollar mark, but several new businesses have been started. Through innovation some reached a return in the thousands.

A lot has happened in the last 10 years. The internet and other advances in technology have made this game even more of an income potential for the participants. I also have grown through working with many start-up  businesses and have discovered many other ways to start a business with no money.

On my “to do” list is to come up with a new, up to date, edition of this book.
