REVISITING THE COMPANY VISION
The number one responsibility of a leader on the way to creating a great company is to have a clear and shared vision for the company. To that definition we added the pursuit of the vision and the commitment necessary to reach it. Remember, vision precedes greatness.
The start of a great vision statement for a company has to come from the core values and beliefs that the business owner has. This philosophy on business and life is not negotiable. Every aspects of growing a company is based on these beliefs and values. That includes hiring the right employees as well as the selection of and interaction with your target market.
The next part of the vision process is to answer,” What is the purpose of your company?” This should flow from your core values and beliefs. Like your values and beliefs your purpose, once defined, should guide the company forever. When developing your company purpose, remember that change is the only constant in today’s business environment so allow for that disruption in stating your purpose. As an example, our company’s purpose is to make sure that every small business has a chance for success. This purpose allows us to adopt new support systems as change occurs. Every company has a purpose for its existence. What is yours?
There is nothing wrong with setting financial goals or positioning goals within an industry. These types of goals are benchmarks for your bottom line. Your company still has to have a purpose that becomes the driving force for its existence.
