EVER CHANGING TECHNOLOGY
My daughter’s family joined us for ice cream one evening last week. We went to a neighboring ice cream shop (The Baked Bear) . My ten year old grandson was excited about the ice cream but even more excited with Pokémon Go. Apparently the shop and the immediate area had a lot of “whatever’s” that my grandson could capture.
Recently I have written several blogs about disruptive technology, and I am now adding Pokémon Go to my list. Not only has this become a worldwide phenomenon, but restaurants and stores quickly jumped on the bandwagon and purchased lures to entice players into their spaces.
A new term, augmented reality, (the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time) will, in my opinion, become a new marketing tool. A few of the industries that have or are adopting this technology include: the fashion and retail industries, healthcare, Ikea, and Ray-Ban, just to name a few.
I believe that Augmented Reality (AR) along with the 3D printer will remain in the headlines for the next year or two. The purpose of this article is to introduce you to the concept of AR and to help you step into the forefront of this disruptive technology by learning more about it.
As small business owners we must always be on the lookout for new ways to “touch” our target market. Interactive content experiences are the wave of the future. Apple is now researching the use of AR along with many other major firms. There are many developers that can help a small business adapt AR as a marketing tool. My message is to act now. Be among the first to apply it to your industry; it may not be as expensive as you think.
