NEVER STOP THOSE GREAT IDEAS!
Whatever your service or product is, you should always be striving to think of something new that you can do with your business. Hopefully all of you have received the BizQuack Idea Book. The instructions for its use were simple: keep this book with you at all times and write down any new ideas that come to mind.
There is always a better way to offer your product/service. It can be an addition or a new product/service that enhances the value of your existing offerings.
The point is to never stop innovating! Innovation gives us new ways and reasons to communicate with friends, customers and prospects. By definition, innovation is “Something different that creates value.”
To point out the rapid rate of change, look back to the year 2000. There were no online social networks, and people communicated mostly by phone and e-mail. You Tube did not exist and google itself was still in its infancy. Even Apple was still known as Apple Computer, a niche player in the personal computing market.
In today’s world, innovation is not a choice. Regardless of what your product or service is, there is room for innovation. To be successful you have to wake up every day and realize that your competitive advantage will not exist tomorrow.
Innovation need not be an impossible challenge. Peter Drucker, one of my favorite authors, noted, “The customer rarely buys what the business thinks it sells him…Nobody pays for a “product”. What is paid for is satisfaction. “
Your customers have a problem that has to be solved or a job that needs to be done. Innovation means that you can spot your customer’s problem not yet solved or jobs not yet done. Again, the solution is to know your target market by spending time with them and to determine their needs.
I believe that everyone has the ability to be a successful innovator. Are you willing to work towards that goal? There will be some scary moments as well as some risk. You may be ridiculed by your peers, but persistence is the key to future success.
