A MUST FOR GROWING YOUR BUSINESS
Unless you are in the “tech” industry, much of what is happening in the digital world sounds a lot like “Greek” and, unfortunately, it is often discarded as a viable small business marketing tool.
An entire new vocabulary made up of initials, words and sentences become vaguely familiar to small business owners, but they are not part of the marketing effort or used in building customer relations.
This evening I attended an hour and a half lecture on SEO (search engine optimization). There were about 40 people present and the presenter allowed questions during the presentation. About 5 people asked all the questions and perhaps dominated the session. The rest of the group had a puzzled look and glazed eyes, something like a deer frozen in the headlights of an oncoming truck.
The presentation told us that “Content is King” when it comes to getting found on search engines. They stressed the importance of having a valuable blog, again the importance of content, and not only posting your blog but also sharing it on all social media outlets. Frequency of your blog is important; a onetime effort won’t accomplish anything. They told us about the importance of your web page being mobile ready. We learned that Google alone has over 1.6 billion monthly searches. How will you ever get found?
Now comes the good news. The presenter was a staff person at our local library. She is the Digital Media Specialist and is one of the most knowledgeable speakers I have heard on this subject. The library has a room with computers, a green screen, video equipment and much more, all free of charge to use. They also provide a two hour, one on one, session, at no charge, on any related topic, including making a video for your business and so much more. The entire power point presentation will be posted on the library web page tomorrow, and with a password given to us, we can access it and learn from it. Yes, after the meeting, I booked a two hour private session to learn new digital marketing techniques for BizQuack.
As I shared in past blogs, as a small business owner you will never know how to do everything. That’s impossible, but you should know what you need to know in order to grow your business. In this case, for many of us, that requires hiring a full time or part time digital media expert.
Sometimes you have to force yourself to go to a presentation even if you are afraid you won’t understand anything. As in my example this evening, there are many people willing to help; all you have to do is ask.
Asking for help is a strength not a weakness!
