POWER NOTES
As most of you know, l have been recommending the use of a hand written note as part of an effective marketing process. What I have been told was that I did not explain the note in enough detail, thus, this blog on the subject.
First question I am asked is: “To whom shall I write a hand written note?” The answer is everyone. Write it to past customers, current customers, referral partners, strategic alliances, prospects, as well as to people you would like to get to know better.
The following outlines some of the components of an effective hand written note:
- Print your own note cards. Keep them simple and use a symbol or monogram that represents you.
- It has been determined that blue ink is the ink of choice.
- Use the word you and avoid words like I, me, and my.
- Be specific in your praise. Identify and acknowledge a characteristic, a talent, or a unique quality.
- Write legibly. Slope your text slightly upward from left to right. Practice your handwriting.
- Add a call to action in the form of a P.S. Ask the recipient to take action such as e-mailing or calling.
To test the value of a handwritten note, I ask you to send out 3 handwritten notes a day, 5 days a week, for two months. Keep track of the result and determine its value for yourself. The postage is less than $70 and your personal printed note cards should be of an equal amount. During these two months you will touch 120 people.
There are a lot of books written on the value of a handwritten note. I would like to recommend one: Your handwriting can change your life by Vimala Rodgers. If you google handwritten notes, you will find a lot of other information on the subject.
