THE PURSUIT OF WOW
Tom Peters has been a must read for me for many years. I have most of his books in my library. This evening I will be presenting a session on “Fast track your business growth”. As I was working on my presentation, trying to figure out what was the most important thing to share, I was reminded of what Tom Peters wrote in his book, The Pursuit of WOW.
“The first 99.9 percent of getting from here to there is the determination to do it and not to compromise, no matter what sort of roadblocks those around you (including peers) erect.
The last 99.9 percent (I know that it adds up to more than 100 percent – That’s life) is working like the devil to:
1. Keep your spirits up through the inevitable storms.
2. Learn something new every day
3. Practice that something, awkward or not and no matter what, until it becomes part of your nature.”
Many small business owners must become profitable in a short period of time in order to survive, in order to achieve that they must work not only harder and spend more time at work, but they must also increase the speed with which they reach milestones.
Be organized so you can tackle the ever-changing world of business ownership.
The challenge before all small business owners is to change from “I can’t do that” or “I can’t finish this project in the amount of time” to “I can do it and here is how”. Many small business owners underestimate the time, energy, money and effort necessary to obtain a consistent positive cash flow.
One way of speeding up the growth process is to systematize everything; that means setting up reliable, repeatable practices for everything in your business. No matter how smart you are, how advanced your education is, or how fast your brain computes in complex situations, systematization makes you faster, cheaper and better.
As a small business owner you must understand that nothing in your business life is fixed. You must believe that it is possible to bend reality to your own preferences, crafting the life you desire through disciplined learning and initiative.
Fast growth means that you don’t have to wait for permission or perfect timing to take the next step; you must be courageous and self-reliant, moving forward at a moment’s notice. Remember, only action allows you to create, grow, connect, contribute and bring your dreams to reality.
