REACH OUT FRIDAY
Connect with Your Business Family
Thanksgiving, for most of us, involves spending time with family and friends. It’s a special time of the year and the importance of having “our community” gather around is not lost in the hugs and kind words that are shared. The day before Thanksgiving is said to be the busiest travel day of the year and thousands of people fight the traffic and spend their hard earned cash for a once a year opportunity to be close to family and friends.
The warm fuzzy may last a few days and then it’s back to reality with plans in hand for next year’s gathering. No one can ever take the place of a family, but that Thanksgiving feeling does not have to be limited to a once a year happening.
I often mention that a business is a living breathing entity and as such, I believe, it also deserves a family. Who are the people that help you make your business a success? Who do you call when you have a difficult business problem and need help? Who do you call to celebrate a success?
Make a list of the most important people in your business life. The goal is to change the “Black Friday” label to “Reach out Friday.” With your list in hand, reach out today and call or visit the top ten people on that list and thank them for their friendship and support.
This top ten list is also your business family. Take the time to start introducing them to the other members of your business family. It may be a slow process, perhaps starting by inviting two of them for coffee and then expending the group the next time you meet.
I’ll bet that these top ten share your values, and chances are very good that they would get along with the other top ten supporters.
This is your business family. Now is the time for you to mold this group into a community that can help you get that Thanksgiving feeling every time you meet.
