SHORT ON RESOURCES?
Resources should never be the main challenge in achieving your vision. To quote something I once heard: “If you already have everything you need to achieve your goal, then your goal’s probably too small.”
An important part for growing a successful business is dealing with a lack of resources because they force you to innovate and to challenge yourself. Limited resources also build resiliency and confidence. In my opinion, the best possible resource that a small business owner can have is their own internal belief system which says “Yes, I can figure this out.”
The following are the most common resources that small business owners tell me they lack:
- Time
- Money
- Technology knowledge
- Creativity
- Belief in themselves
- Discipline
- Experience
- Enough contacts
We can all add to this list! There is nothing that is on this list or anything that anyone can add to this list that cannot be overcome. If your vision is strong enough, you will do whatever it takes to get there. Don’t follow someone else’s path; cut your own path. Be fearless and travel beyond your imagined limitations.
A statement that frequently appears in my blogs, “It’s good to be in business for yourself but not by yourself” is certainly applicable to this situation. One support system is to surround yourself with the right people, those who will tell you can overcome your limitations. They will give you the courage to pursue your dreams and will support you as you do so.
Your achievement team can include your advisory board, your mentor or your peer group. Family and friends, for a variety of reasons, are not always the best people to encourage you to take the necessary risks to achieve greatness.
