THE MOST IMPORTANT ANSWER
Ever get stumped when someone asks you what you do?
The most important answer to the most important question… What do you do?
Yes, the BizQuack business plan starts with a vision, but it is important to have a short summary of that vision. That short summary statement should explain why your business exists and what difference it makes. My favorite Big Idea Statement belongs to Disney: “We make people happy.”
A good place to start working on your short impact summary is to answer the following question: “What is important about my business?” Another question is “Why does my business exist?”
The importance of having this one liner, this 10 second story, is because this is probably the single most asked question when two people meet. Depending upon your answer, the meeting will either develop into the establishment of a mutually beneficial relationship, or it will be another forgotten encounter.
It may be hard to a cram the following three parts into your “one-liner”:
· What you do.
· Who you do it for.
· How it makes their lives better
Your goal is to communicate what you do and its value to others with the desired result of “Tell me more.”
Don’t expect to create this “one-liner” in a few minutes, or even several hours. Creating something memorable that can be used over and over again, will take time.
Several other examples of great one-liners are:
· We refresh the world. (Coca-Cola)
· We give unlimited opportunity to women (Mary Kay Cosmetics)
To prove the importance of having a 10 second one-liner, ask the next ten people you meet at a networking function: What do you do? Listen to their answers, are you inspired enough by what they said to find out more about them?
