The Value of a Future Goal
“The value of a future goal is the present change it fosters.” I read this sentence some time ago and it keeps resonating in my mind.
In other words when we set a goal something should happen today. It is not enough to set a goal, for example to double your monthly income, and then continue doing the same thing as before. The real value of that goal is all about how it changes the substance and quality of the decisions you’re making in this moment.
What changes should and could you make immediately? Consider the following:
- First and foremost you have to believe that it is an achievable goal.
- Visualize the new future with your new goal reached.
- Next your action items must conform to the new reality.
Alvin Toffler wrote the following: “You’ve got to think about the big things while you’re doing small things so that all the small things go in the right direction.”

If you have lost the self-discipline to use this form, it’s time to “get back in the saddle.”
The right action, traveling in the right direction is what is going to make 2021 your best year ever.
