UNREALISTIC & UNREASONABLE

I love working with small businesses and by encouraging them to create a vision without limits, in time or money, I have the privilege of seeing new ventures blossom. A vision without any limits will make a business owner stretch much further and achieve much greater results.

Recently I attended a small business seminar and the presenter emphasized, as his main point, the SMART goal setting process. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time bound.) I sat there as the approximately 50 small business owners took notes on how to limit their growth by adopting the SMART mentality.

One of my clients is a perfect example of someone who is “unrealistic and unreasonable”. I started this journey with him and accompany him as he shares his vision. The more he is told how impossible his vision is the more motivated and determined to succeed he has become. The driving force behind his vision and what I believe will be a tremendous success, is his belief in himself.  We now have built a support system of believers in his vision who are serving on our advisory board and are wearing the mantel of “Unrealistic and Unreasonable” as a badge of honor and pride.

My unbelievable student entrepreneurs that are participating in the Venture Devil program at Arizona State University all share a common, no limit vision, for their businesses. I know that all four of these young business owners will be making headlines throughout the world as they grow and manage very profitable businesses.

Look at all the disruptive technologies and businesses that are sprouting up all around us: putting a man on the moon, having driverless cars, wearable technologies. Every day, if you take the time to look, a few people who are not bound by their own imagination and belief, are achieving the impossible.

I enjoyed a conversation with a friend who has the same mindset that I have and that I pass on to my members and clients. We both teach that no two businesses are alike, and by putting them into a “one size fits all business plan” is putting those businesses into a straight jacket which allows no room for innovation.
