“IT WON’T WORK” is not an acceptable answer
In the past several weeks I reached out to several people who I thought might be interested in a new business venture one of my clients is starting. Yes, my client is following my advice; “You have to think big to grow big”. The business executives I met with were successful and respected in their own industry. Much to my surprise, the common thread from all the people to whom I presented my client’s concept was “No way, it won’t work, walk away from it.”
Perhaps they forgot how it was when they started at the bottom of the ladder. Maybe they have gotten set in their ways and feel comfortable doing what they have always done. Maybe they feel no one else can do something that they haven’t thought of.
I am sure that many small business owners run into negative words as they share their business dreams. Everyone from a banker who won’t lend money for the new venture to professionals who want more for their services than is affordable during the growth stages of a small business.
Perseverance and a community of other small businesses often can provide answers to what may seem an impossible obstacle.
This morning I met with another client, and I shared my negative encounter story with him. He asked me if I knew who Arnold Schwarzenegger was. I replied, “Sure past governor of California plus an action movie star”. He answered with “Arnold is my main motivator in my business career .” He then turned on his computer and at a touch of a key, Arnold appeared on a big screen TV in his office. The four minute video was much more than I expected, and it spelled out what a mindset small business owners should possess.
Click to see the video: Arnold Schwarzenegger – Motivation 6 rules of success speech; it last just a few seconds over 4 minutes. I now have that stored on my computer and am ready to show it to my clients as one of the best motivational talks I have ever heard.
Do it now! Take 5 minutes and listen to Arnold and then send me an e-mail at nick@strategicduck.com and share your thoughts.
