TC: WHAT BRINGS YOU JOY?
Small business success is predicated on growing a business that brings you JOY. The growth of small businesses is necessary for the U.S. economy to survive and stabilize. Yes, the stock market is up and mega corporations are expanding and providing hourly wage jobs; even so, our unemployment rate is growing and there are not enough jobs to provide everyone with a livable wage.
Growing or starting a business cannot be predicated on doing something that will bring in “some money.” More and more people may have to face the harsh reality that they are responsible for providing income for their families, and that may have to be starting a small business.
The wrong question to ask is “What kind of business should I start that will make money?” In helping potential business owners I am now asking them, what is your passion? What do you like to do? What brings you JOY?
YOUR CHALLENGE: Once we determine the answer to those questions, then the challenge is to build a business which incorporates that “passion” as the heart of the business. I have yet to find a passion that cannot be incorporated into a new business.
Starting a new business or growing an existing business in today’s environment is totally different than it was a year ago. The COVID pandemic is not going away soon, nor are the people that want something for nothing. Technology will continue to grow at an even faster pace and the way we market, communicate with our customers, deliver our product and services will be in a constant state of change.
A business owner will not have a text book to provide a “how to succeed” plan. A willingness to work harder than ever before and to learn new things will form the basis for success. I also want to displace another false statement, “I am too old to learn something new.” If you want something bad enough, everything is possible.
Now more than ever a business support group is necessary. Have you started yours yet? BizQuack members are a good source for building your group.
