ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Occasionally I visit with small business owners who start off a conversation saying, “ I have not accomplished anything”. When things go wrong in a business it’s easy to wrap up your entire life into this one experience and to start a “pity party.” Every small business owner will experience a down turn, both in business as well as mentally. The secret is not to let yourself get wrapped up in feeling sorry for yourself because it will affect everything else you do.
Even if you don’t feel “down,” this simple exercise will help you realize what you have already accomplished and help to motivate you for future successes. The tools you need are a stack of 3×5 cards (at least 100 of them) and a writing instrument. Next, ask yourself the following questions:
What have I accomplished in my life? What have I achieved? What item did I want and then went out and got it? What about friends? Do I exercise? Do I go to church? From the time you were a little child you started accomplishing great things. This process will help you remember all the good things you did.
Write each thought that comes to mind on a separate card. Think back to schools, did you finish high school or college? Did you attend a great seminar? Don’t forget your immediate family and great things that you did together.
By now you may have already used up your original 100 cards; get another stack and continue the process. Don’t throw them away, but use them as reinforcement for yourself to remind you that you have indeed accomplished a lot.
GET MOTIVATED FOR FUTURE SUCCESS!
