BEING EXTRAORDINARY
Being Extraordinary is a goal that every small business owner should have. That goal is best accomplished by trying to do the best you can, every day. I love the following mantra used by Marty Edelston; “Good, Better, Best. Never let it rest until the good is better and the better best”. His mantra could be found on his business cards, stationery and everywhere else he could share it.
Being extraordinary means doing hard work; working more than required in order to get from Good to Best. Extraordinary by definition means anything outside the realm of what most normal people can do and achieve.
Working hard is not just about putting in a lot of hours. It’s what you do with those hours that matters most. In my opinion there are several things that you can do:
- Surround yourself with people that are smarter than you.
- Have a mentor/coach to walk with you.
- Always be in a learning mode: read good books (not just those in your field of expertise), attend lectures and learn by sharing your knowledge with others.
- Be focused on helping others.
- Take care of your physical and spiritual needs.
Success will come if you are Extraordinary. I believe that success is vital to the well-being of a small business owner; it provides confidence, a sense of accomplishment, security, and most important hope and belief in what you can accomplish in the future.
It’s important to think of success as a must-have obligation; this will eliminate spending the rest of your life making excuses as to why you did not achieve it. Remember: Success is not something that happens to you; it’s something that happens because of you and because of the actions you take.
