Bouncing Back
This past 14 months have been a nightmare for many small business owners. The secret that successful small business owners know is that even if adversity strikes, they can work around it. Sales slumps, changing customer preferences and events like the pandemic and civil unrest will continue to be a part of small business life. The strong survive not because they are determined to conduct business as usual, but because they find ways to rise above the issue at hand.
The key thing to remember is that you cannot possibly anticipate every happening that will have an adverse effect on your business, but you can resolve to face challenges as they arise. Likewise, you must always be on the lookout for new opportunities.
Are you bouncing back? To me, bouncing back means that you are reaching for a higher goal than you had achieved before.
A ball cannot bounce by itself. The only way to obtain a bounce is to have someone throw the ball. The force of the ball hitting the hard ground puts an equal force back on the ball, meaning it bounces back up.
The ball needs help to bounce and we, as small business owners need someone to help us bounce back. The statement I frequently quote: “It’s good to be in business for yourself but not by yourself.”
holds more meaning than ever before. Let me share a few benefits for having that support person:
- Helps the bounce reach new heights.
- Creates supportive relationships.
- Provides direction.
- Provides friendship.
- Provides performance feedback.
- Helps develop your potential.
- Provides inspiration.
- Offers Praise.
The height of your bounce back will depend upon how open you are to getting support and how hard you are willing to work to reach an enhanced vision.
