CHANGE IS IN THE AIR…again!
The last few days have set in motion another major change as the political parties in our nation hands “the running of our country reins” from one party to another.
I maintain the future of our nation is in our hands as small business owners. It is virtually impossible for anyone of us alone to influence what happens in Washington. There is a place where we can exert a lot of influence, and this is in our own back yard. If we sit and wait for others to create change, we will all perish.
We must let go of what we can’t do and focus on what we can do.
- We have to believe that small business is not only the backbone of our nation, but that it is the foundation upon which we must grow. In other words, capitalism is good!
- We have to support, whenever possible, small businesses in our community.
- We have to share our knowledge of the business world with others who want to start a business.
- Small business has to be cooperation when it comes to creating a pie, and competition when it comes to dividing it. In other words, your success doesn’t require other small businesses to fail; there can be multiple winners.
- Help others start a small business and become a mentor in their growth.
- As a small business owner you have to become known in your community as a small business advocate and make your belief a part of all your marketing efforts.
I believe that the first few months of a new administration will be “good for business”. There will be an effort to show that voters made the right choice. However, I don’t believe that the” good times” will continue indefinitely so we must use this time to entrench ourselves.
We have to avoid a future where a few large entities control how and where we work as well as what we do and how we think. The wealth and power has to be spread by and in the hands of the small business owners who want to maintain their independence and want to be responsible for their own future.
