Tried and true will not work in today’s fast changing world. As small business owners we have to be on the cutting edge of innovation and to me that requires thinking out of the box. My definition of that term refers to not following the “herd”, not getting trampled in the stampede.
Job descriptions have a tendency to be the same for a given profession. When a new business starts in a given discipline, it usually follows a pattern in what they say their job is and the services and products that are offered.
Survival and growth rely heavily on your ability to differentiate yourself from the rest of the field. Any industry leader can be challenged by a newcomer that is up to date on the needs of the customer and at the same time is willing to offer more services and a better experience.
My conversation with business owners, at some point in time, comes down to identification of their “differences” that set them apart from their competition and the experiences they provide while delivering their services or products.
Doing things differently attracts attention and your target market is more open to listening to your story. The new and different experiences you surprise your customers with while delivering your products or services often will result in your story being shared, and referrals start coming in.
The Vision Based Business Plan outline is the same for all business owners; all the essential elements for successfully growing a business are retained. The addition of unforgettable experiences and having a unique method of delivering the products, services and experiences created the difference and the advantage.
