LEARN ABOUT AND ADOPT NEW TECH
Technologies have outpaced our ability as small business owners to understand them. It’s time to start catching up.
A business is opened and for the foreseeable future every effort is made to build a foundation. Then we bury our noses in the mundane, but very necessary, task of focusing on survival. Unfortunately, in today’s world, coming up for a “breath of fresh air” is a survival must. The revolution in technology and communications has become an explosive force which can change the dynamics of your business in a heartbeat. Obsoleteness and opportunity, both of which can have major impact on your small business, require you to stay up to date on what is happening in these two areas. In fact, it is not enough to know about something after it happens, but to learn about new innovations so you can be the first to implement them into your business life.
All new technologies and communications methods are, at first, not geared towards a specific use. It is up to a human mind to see the potential application and adopt it. We can no longer say that we have rapid change occurring in our business world; the correct term is constant change.
Voice recognition has been around for many years. We can ask our smart phone to dial someone by name, we can ask for directions and a multitude of other request. For me, the Amazon Echo is just the latest (almost two years old) use of voice recognition. I have one in my home and I can get updates on news, sports, and weather. I can order a pizza or almost anything that Amazon has to offer simply by asking “Alexa” for it. It is possible to control your lights and thermostats with it if you have compatible equipment. I can ask for almost any type of music or a specific song. If you owned, for example, an air-conditioning and heating company, wouldn’t it have been great for your business if you had hooked up with Amazon and people can just ask for service like yours whenever they had a problem?
Things like 3-D printers are becoming very affordable; how can you use one in your business? Robotics are, in my opinion, the next “big thing” that will become household and business friendly.
There are so many other things. How can you as a business owner learn about these things? BizQauck will help starting in 2017 by having a new tab with information on new concepts as well as links to learn about new innovative ideas. It will take some time to populate this feature and it will have to be an ongoing work as nothing is ever static.
