LEARN – UNLEARN – RELEARN
You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing and by falling over. Richard Branson – founder and CEO of Virgin Group
Education is obsolete the day you graduate. Colleges and universities are “stuck” in a four year cycle during which they try to impart the necessary knowledge a student needs to succeed. I compare that to participating in a weekend business seminar; once you attended and paid your costly fee, you are ready to conquer the business world, at least that is what is being sold.
Business education has to be a lifelong learning process if it’s going to have any positive effect on your growing business.
Many small business owners don’t want to do anything hard, that is why change is avoided and the old “comfort” zone prevails that is making sure you have a web site and a business address on social media and you have completed most of your marketing requirements.
I believe that the entire small business world is undergoing a radical shift. From the archaic business plans that haven’t changed in decades to the comfort of a marketing plan which is the same as every ones else’s, change is coming faster and faster, and those that don’t stay ahead will be left behind.
Our goal at BizQuack is to give our members a solid enough foundation so they can accept change and make it work in their favor. You will find some disruptive topics in our blogs and Tuesday Challenges. No, you don’t have to do everything yourself, but you need to know what is coming so that you can find the right help to incorporate these changes into your business.
The goal of marketing is to reach the right audience so that you can share your unique value propositions. Those value propositions have to be in step with the current needs of your market. But, before you can tell your story, you have to get their attention and you can’t do that by doing the same thing over and over again.
To be successful you have to put yourself “out there”. That means taking a risk and trying new ways of getting that needed attention from your target market. You have to embrace the “chaos”. Nothing will ever be the same again so build everything on the premise that things will permanently be changing.
The message today is to run your business, not like everyone else, but dare to be different and stand out in all your actions.
