Commit to a Niche!
At a recent conference I was challenged with the possibility that small business owners may have to look outside “online” marketing as the best channel to showcase their products and services. Mega firms now have full time staffs working on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to make sure that their products and services are in the top ten. The presenter said that unless your product/service is near the top, you will not be found.
Small business owners barely have enough time to work on making ends meet thus spending a lot of time on SEO becomes an almost impossible task.
Big firms cast a wide shadow when marketing their wares online. In my opinion, the best way to compete online is to be focused, to have a niche market. Ideally, it’s a niche that no-one else wants. Be careful; in the selection of your niche make sure that the “niche” has enough money to pay for your products/services. The objective is to create a market that is hungry for your product/service by niching your audience.
The secret to growth is having consistent content that is easily assimilated by your target market without having them work to understand your message.
Unique Selling Proposition
Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) is how you want to be known by your customers, your peers and your team. (As I frequently state, a business cannot grow without a team). Every single aspect of your business should be amplifying your USP.
I want to refer you to our session “Get Seen and Get Heard”. That has been posted in your education section in BizQuack and it walks you through a series of steps on marketing, starting with yourself. Please go back and review that session.
The most important thing to recognize is that if your target market does not buy from you, then you are sending out the wrong message. If that is happening, then you have to change your marketing format including your USP.
