TC: TAKE A STEP BACK
As small business owners the coronavirus has affected each of us in a different way, but the bottom line result is that our concerns are business related. Worrying about the future of our business and what the potential loss may be will not bring forth a magic solution nor will it bring JOY to you and your family.
Your challenge for this week is to step back from your business mindset and work on creating a joyful situation for others, not related to your business. I believe that living in isolation is, in itself, a JOY robbing situation. How can you make a difference?
I live in a cul-de-sac and for almost two weeks our cul-de-sac has been extremely quiet. Only one of my neighbors works in an “essential” business and therefore has to go to work every day. The rest of us are obeying instructions, staying home and working as much as possible from home.
This afternoon one of my neighbors brought me JOY by suggesting that we have a cul-de-sac “social distancing” cocktail party. We will be bringing our own lawn chairs and beverage of our choice. With a six foot separation we can form a circle where the 16 adults can sit and still be able to have a conversation. What a great idea, and all the neighbors said they are “excited” about the party.
This evening another friend invited us to join a conversation with 20 others that was not related to the coronavirus. He used “Go to Meeting” as his platform and led a very stimulating conversation for one and a half hours. It was great to get our minds off the current situation and to interact with others.
Giving of yourself will bring JOY to you and to others. Perhaps ordering something (food, snacks, etc.) on-line and having it delivered to your local fire station or police station with a Thank You note may be your challenge.
The purpose of this challenge is twofold: first to think of what can bring JOY to others and second, to give your mind a break from thinking about your business.
Yes, I would like to hear how you met your challenge; please send me an e-mail.
