THE ONLY DIFFERENCE
What will change between now and next year?
“The only difference between where you are right now, and where you’ll be next year at this same time, are the people you meet and the books you read.”
Trial and error is ok, but it usually is a waste of both time and money. Books have become a forgotten tool in the area of small business growth. The history of the world has been, and is being written in books by thousands of people who have come and gone before us. They share their unique knowledge and insights and provide a building block for the future of mankind.
The same holds true in the world of business. There are excellent books written on most every aspect of business growth. Books on disruptive technologies that will change the way we do business are being published by scientists with much more insight than a small business owner. New management techniques are being introduced by those that have lived the experience.
In other words, you don’t have to re-invent the business growth wheel, it’s already been done. Make it a point to read one great book every month. Yes, BizQuack has published a list of highly recommended books in past blogs.
The second part of the introductory sentence addresses the people you will meet in the next year. The secret is to be selective and to create a profile of the people with whom you want to associate. If you are a struggling small business owner don’t surround yourself with other small business owners in the same situation.
Find out where the people you want to learn from are located and make it a point to be there. I am not referring to prospects, but to people you admire and respect and want to be like.
Reading the right books and associating with the right people will result in new business coming to you instead of you having to find it.
