ALL WORK AND NO PLAY
Sometimes small business owners become workaholics or, in this environment, thoughtaholics. The COVID-19 has changed each of us and we are either working all day long trying to “make a buck”, or to get ready for the grand re-opening of our economy. Some may be spending their time just thinking about what’s going to happen next and how they will fit into the “changed” world. I am also sure that some small business owners are so overwhelmed that they are almost immobilized.
The BizQuack blogs, since the virus was recognized, were geared toward challenging you to work harder, think harder and to prepare yourself for the future. In my eagerness to help, I forgot one very important statement from the best book ever written, “AND ON THE 7TH DAY HE RESTED.”
Sitting in front of the TV watching movies or listening to “politicians” trying to second guess the future, is not resting. Nor is sitting in front of your computer either working or catching up on the latest social media happenings.
Today is the day to start “playing”. I define playing as doing something that you really want to or have sometimes in your life thought of doing other than work. Maybe a hobby, like mine (started a coin collection) or playing golf, or learning to play the piano or building something or???????? You decide, but, do something fun.
I enjoy people and a group of our friends get together every Monday evening (zoom) for a glass of wine. We share fun stories and are planning group vacations starting this fall and for 2021. No, we haven’t made reservations, but we will be ready to act as soon as we can.
Even with the virus we have not shut out our family. My daughter’s family (live in Scottsdale) spent Easter with us. My grandson’s birthday is this coming Thursday and Nanci and I are picking him up in the morning and, within the CoViD-19 guidelines, we have planned a fun day which will end up back at his home for a small but fun party.
Make a commitment to “play” this weekend. Rest your mind and concentrate on treating yourself to something special. You will feel much better next week and yes, I will resume sending you work related blogs to help you reach your vision.
