CLOSE TO HOME
It certainly has been a very frustrating couple of months. As small business owners we like to be busy, involving others as we network, make sales presentations and doing all the other necessary things to grow our businesses.
Now we listen to the news and get lots of different perspectives as to what is really happening. Where did COVID-19 start, and is it as bad as they say it is? Politicians have to take advantage of anything that may win a few more votes, whether their stories are true or not.
Like many of you, I can’t wait to get the green light to go back out into the world.
However, reality set in when I received a phone call from a business friend; I had my first conversation with a COVID-19 patient. He got the virus almost three weeks ago and today was the first day that he felt like sharing his story. Due to an underlying medical issue, his doctor recommended that he stay home under his care; the reason he gave was that it may be a safer place to quarantine. Yes, he had and still does have some trouble breathing but it has gotten much better this week.
My friend said that he was taking care of himself and was following all the given recommendations to avoid catching the virus. He has no idea where the actual “exposure “occurred. I know how catastrophic this experience has been for him, his family and his business.
I am deviating from my usual business related “how to” blog in order to emphasize the following:
- Remember that you are the most important person in the world for your business and your family.
- Be cautious in your outreach. Use the available non-contact (technology) methods for marketing as much as possible.
- You may feel silly always wearing a mask and gloves (if possible) when you have to go out, but do it anyway.
- Disinfect all purchased items before you bring them into our home or office.
- Use the “elbow bump” as a greeting for the rest of the year.
- Respect others! Social distancing will be with us for a while as will the COVID-19.
- Be aware that your business world has changed and it may never be the same as before again. Be open to new ideas, lead change in your industry.
- When all else fails, use common sense as you move forward.
There is a rainbow in the sky for all of us, but we have to be careful as we walk towards our pot of gold.
