CONFIDENCE IS THE BACKBONE OF SUCCESS
To quote Mark Twain: “Throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”confidence
In business, just as in real life, confidence and belief in your own ability has to exist in order to achieve a goal. That is just the beginning; hard work and long hours make up the rest of the components necessary to achieve your dream.
Too often small business owners feel victimized when things don’t go right. They think that they are victims of the competition, the economy, the banking system, the government, etc. etc. A definition that I heard for the word “victims” is as follows: “Victims are people who run their lives according to the dictates of others; they find themselves doing things they really would rather not do.”
You are a victim when you get up in the morning and start thinking about all the things that can go wrong in your business or when you think that everyone is smarter or luckier than you.
For small business owners the willingness to confront “fear thoughts “is called courage. The bravest things you can do when you are not brave is to profess courage and act accordingly.
As a small business owner you set out on your own because you believed that you could establish a successful business. Challenges will come and self-doubt may accompany them. That is the time you must not only believe in yourself but learn to trust others to help you on your journey. (You have seen the following in many of my writings: “It’s good to be in business for yourself but not by yourself.” That is one of the reasons we created BizQuack)
Taking risks is part of growing a business and the fear factor is alive and well when you confront the unknown. Someone once described FEAR as an acronym: False Expectations Appearing Real. For the most part, what we fear is not real – it is merely our mind imagining something awful that has not yet happened.
Today, right now, is the best time to grow your business. Step out of the shadows and shout your message to the whole world. Believe in yourself, your vision and your ability to achieve whatever you set out to do.
You got this!
