TC: Personal Database Management
THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE: Personal Database Management
This week’s assignment is one of the basic building blocks for any small business; whether you are selling a product or service, this is a must have. Label this your “Personal Database” because the people you include are those that already know you. In other words, if they receive correspondence from you, they will recognize your name and chances are good that it will be opened.
For this exercise you should select an online marketing company such as Constant Contact. These services allow you to create and save contacts for use in online marketing. Take a moment to review and select one that suits your company and needs. Utilizing an online contact database allows you to create different types of lists and store and update contact information quickly and easily. You can then create campaigns to sell your services or products.
Basic information should be gathered including first and last name, e-mail address, preferred telephone number, business name if applicable, and mailing address.
The list should include friends, relatives, business associates, customers/clients and any other persons who personally know you.
This personal database is a work in progress. Your goal should be to add two names a month to this base. Future challenges will show you how to best use this database to generate additional business and what type of databases are needed.
If you are already working with a Personal Database, take time to review, purge and update the information.
