TC: REFLECTION
“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.” Peter F. Drucker
This quote from one of my favorite authors reminds us that in the midst of our very busy small business lives we have to stop and reflect on what we are doing. We must pause and reflect on our actions and what lessons we have learned from those actions.
Although I am a Pepsi fan, I have to give credit to Coke for one of their slogans “the pause that refreshes.” John C Maxwell wrote the following about the power of Pausing:
- Reflection Turns Experience into Insight.
- Everyone Needs a Time and a Place to Pause.
- Pausing with intention Expands and Enriches Thinking
Most of you know that I am a strong advocate of journaling. Your challenge for today is to take 5 to 10 minutes and as Jim Rohn says: “At the end of each day you should play back the tapes of your performance. The results should either applaud you or prod you.”
I am asking you to play back your day in the form of a short written review of your performance. Did you accomplish what you hoped to? What positive strides have you made? Where did you neglect an action item? Do this every day before you set your work aside, and yes, find a quiet place to do your reflection and journaling.
Challenges are not meant to be easy, that is why they are a challenge. If you can persevere and do this reflection action for 90 days, your business life will gain new meaning.
Success is always a choice. Discipline and hard work are part of the secret formula that takes you there.
