WHAT DO YOU DO?
Using Simon Sinek’s simple diagram consisting of three concentric circles with the WHY being the center, the next has the word HOW and the outer ring the word WHAT.
According to Simon, most people know WHAT they do and HOW they do it, but very few know WHY they do it. I am finding that many small business owners also struggle with the WHAT and HOW as well as the WHY.
The following is my addition to this simple yet powerful concept. Let’s start with the outer ring:
WHAT: Can you describe in one sentence what you do? This is the starting point, the answer you give to anyone that asks you. As an example, my WHAT is: I put work clothes on your vision so you can make it a reality. This can also be your promise or a part of it.
HOW: Just as important is one sentence that describes how you make your WHAT happen. My HOW, as an example, is delivered through BIZQUACK.
WHY: WHY you do WHAT you do is the most important part of these three words. That WHY is the central part of your personal and business story.
The real purpose of the answers to these three words is to entice the listener to say,” Tell me more”, to get them to want to learn more about you and your firm.
You have to be consistent in your answers. They also have to be spread throughout your marketing program. They should be the main message that you deliver to everyone.
